Warners To Introduce Hybrid HD DVD/Blu-ray Disc

Warner Bros. is ready to announce a hybrid HD DVD/Blu-ray disc that will be capable of storing both formats, in addition to the standard DVD format. The new technology is being called "True HD" by Warners and claims it is a cheaper alternative to the creation of dual format players.

Although the new dual discs could be a cheaper way for Warners to release movies on both formats, they have not announced any current plans to discontinue their solo format HD DVD and Blu-ray releases. There was also no word yet on if the new combo discs would be priced higher than Warners' current hi-def titles for the two formats.

Warners is expected to release more details about their new "Total HD" technology at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show, which begins in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 8th.

It's called "TOTAL HD", not "TRUE HD". TrueHD is an audio format from Dolby.
